Scaling Payload and Size
We offer two machine ranges: one with a 190 mm wheel diameter and a larger version with 300 mm wheels.
Starting with the smaller size, the Orbiter S carries up to 1,000 kg payload. The advantage is that we can operate at 24 V DC, and all component sizes remain compact enough to fit within the Orbiter’s 1 × 1 m frame.
This limit is exceeded once you need to move more than 1,000 kg. In that case, we increase the frame size and add additional axles with wheels that do not necessarily include a motor. This approach allows us to maintain 24 V DC operation while increasing payload capacity.
To increase payload further, we recommend using two or more Orbiter S units that move as one in a Master/Slave compound system. This can be scaled up to 8 Orbiters operating as a single vehicle.
Naturally, this approach also has its limits. If you generally require higher payloads, it can be preferable to start with our larger wheel diameter platform: the Orbiter M (our standard vehicle for heavier loads). The Orbiter M can be expanded in the same way as the Orbiter S: we can increase the frame size, add additional support wheels, and apply the Master/Slave technique to build a compound vehicle of up to 8 Orbiter M units.

Each Orbiter S axle offers eight mounting positions for the damper elements.
For stiffer movement on high-quality, flat surfaces, use the four outer positions. If floor conditions are less than ideal, you can switch to the four inner positions on the axle. This setup requires less floor flatness and allows greater axle compliance, helping the system absorb irregularities more effectively.
In some cases, a true pendulum axle is required to handle very uneven surfaces. For industrial applications, we developed a pendulum axle with the damper mounting position centred within the frame. This axle can also be installed on the Orbiter S. If you require this option, please contact our Technical Support.
